Supreme comforts in a Shakespeare-era home
The Old Manor House is a magnificent 16th century Manor House B&B in the village of Halford, on the northern edges of the Cotswolds. It is surrounded by landscaped gardens that slope down to the River Stour.
There are three guest bedrooms here; Underhill, Rowley and Beecham. All are either en-suite or have private bathrooms and are fitted with flat-screen TVs, tea and coffee making facilities, bathrobes and Ila-Spa bath products. Beds are super-comfortable and fitted with fine linens, and all three rooms can be configured as either a twin or a king-sized double. Underhill is set in the oldest part of the house, dating back to 1550. Rowley is reached by its own private staircase and landing, with its own private bathroom and a further single bedroom that can be made available to accommodate a further guest – who would share the bathroom – if required. Beecham is again in the oldest part of the house and overlooks the pretty thatched cottage opposite.
Downstairs the property is furnished with an eclectic mix of antique furnishings and contemporary art. The dining room is for the exclusive use of guests who also have the use of a large drawing room. The grounds extend over three acres and are a delight: they are beautifully designed and slope gently down to the River Stour – perfect for picnics. There is also a gazebo and a tennis court.
Guests here are greeted with tea and homemade cake which, in good weather, is served on the sun terrace. Breakfasts are delicious, with ingredients sourced locally from known farmers, and bread is homemade using Doves organic flour.
All in all this is a fantastic place to stay in South Warwickshire.

"A special welcome awaits you from Jane and William at this delightful, historic B & B in the peaceful village of Halford. It's a beautiful house in stunning grounds overlooking the River Stour. I was walking Shakespeare's Way from Stratford and this was my first stop. Despite arriving early I was warmly greeted with tea and cake. My bedroom dated back to 1556, featuring ancient beams and a very comfortable bed. My breakfast was first class. I thoroughly recommend the Old Manor House for every type of traveller. Note that the excellent pub in Halford does not serve food on Monday or Tuesday."
