Leicestershire

Centered around the cathedral city of Leicester, Leicestershire is a landlocked county in the Midlands. In fact, it almost defines the midlands in that it contains Fenny Drayton, which is indeed the geographical middle of England. A large part of the north of the country is covered by the National Forest, which stretches across into Derbyshire and Staffordshire, and provides a wild reserve for wildlife of all kinds. Leicestershire gave the world Red Leicester cheese and the pork pie, but highlights today include the National Space Centre and Belvoir and Ashby castles.
