One of England’s finest stately mansions; now a B&B

Goadby Marwood Hall is a glorious Georgian country house now a stately bed and breakfast. Six guest bedrooms, all ensuite, are set in a 17th century mansion cradled by walled gardens and extensive grounds.

Though Goadby Marwood Hall only rents out six guest bedrooms the property itself actually has several more: the dining room table seats twelve so only six are usually rented out. All are large, furnished with antiques, and all have ensuite private bathrooms: you’ll never feel crowded here.

Guests are free to use the drawing room during their stay, while breakfasts are served in the light and airy dining room. The mansion was once owned by the Duke of Rutland, and was part of the Belvoir Castle estate: most of it dates back to the 17th century, though the Palladian-style south wing was added in 1750. The property is set on the edge of a tiny village, and its terrace looks directly across to the 13th century village church.

The grounds are a delight. There are seven acres of walled gardens and extensive grounds with five lakes. Over the last 25 years your hosts have worked tirelessly to restore the property and grounds to its original 18th century plans and to stroll around the gardens and lakes is to step back in time.

Though Goadby Marwood Hall doesn’t routinely offer evening meals, exceptions can be made for groups of friends or family reunions. Just ask when booking and see what can be arranged.
