Nottinghamshire in the East Midlands is perhaps most famous for Sherwood Forest and the historic city of Nottingham where you will find not only Nottingham castle but also historic Anglo-Saxon caves under the city.  For literary enthusiasts, DH Lawrence hailed from Nottinghamshire, and two of Lord Byron’s ancestral family homes can be found here; one of them, Newstead Abbey is open to visitors who can visit the historic house and 300 acres of parkland. Clumber Park, a National Trust property with a 3800 acre expanse of woodland, parkland and farmland is another Nottinghamshire highlight.
