City-centre luxury in the heart of York
The Coal Shed is a four-bedroom B&B in the heart of York. Though it was, as its name suggests, once a Coal Shed it was transformed into a stylish B&B that opened in 2017. There are four guest bedrooms, all ensuite: on the ground floor there’s a king-sized room with disabled access and an ensuite wet room, on the first floor there are two kingsized rooms with ensuite showerss and in the loft a further room that can be configured either as a superking or a twin.
Your hosts don’t live in the Coal Shed – they have a house and a jewellry studio right next door – but they’re always on hand to help if required. Breakfasts are served at the dining table in the hall on the ground floor – though they can also be left outside your room if you prefer not to face the world at this time. They’re not cooked breakfasts; instead a selection of fresh fruit, juices, plain and fruit yoghurts, cereals, fresh bread and warm croissants. Vegans, vegetarians and gluten-free diets can all be catered for – just let your hosts know in advance. Best of all, breakfasts can be served at any time to suit you: no time is too early or late.
The location is superb. It’s a five minute walk to York Minster and all the attractions of this medieval city are within easy reach. With off-street parking there is no better place to stay in York.

Location
The Coal Shed is tucked away behind gates so it is very peaceful despite its city centre location. There is off-street parking for two vehicles behind the front gates and one further paid parking space available on the street outside. Though this only provides three parking spaces for four guest bedrooms in practice there is invariably a space for each room that needs it - though the check in (3-10pm) and check out time (11am) has to apply to vehicles as well as guests. For those who prefer to travel by train The Coal Shed is just a mile from York Railway station, and its a stone's throw from York Minster and all the attractions that York has to offer.
