Hardly a cottage: think Manor House – with all the trimmings
The Wold Cottage is a substantial manor-house B&B near the Yorkshire Coast, with six guest B&B bedrooms in the main house offering luxury and ease, set in landscaped grounds with all the grandeur of its Georgian era.
A warm welcome awaits. The six guest bedrooms are beautifully appointed and offer the perfect blend of comfort and elegance, each designed to ensure a restful and enjoyable stay. Five of the rooms are suites and there’s one double room, all ensuite, individually furnished and with their own distinct character. The Robson Suite has a four-poster king bed and two separate singles so is perfect for families; the Parker Suite has its own kitchen; the Major Topham has the best garden views and the Miss Davy Suite has the most gloriously swagged king sized bed. All rooms have tvs, coffee facilities, wifi and the usual facilities – but the towels are extra fluffy.
Guests aren’t confined to their rooms here. There’s a huge entrance hall, sitting rooms and dining room, where delicious breakfasts are served. The breakfast menu varies seasonally, and ingredients are locally-sourced where possible: dietary requirements can be catered for of course.
All the ground-floor rooms have floor-to-ceiling Georgian windows and often doors to the gardens, allowing the indoor world to blend seamlessly with the grounds. These are Stately-Home standard and full of interest: they’re beautifully kept with topiary hedges, open lawns, steps giving to various levels and any number of places to sit and soak in the view. Walks head out in every direction across 200 acres of the Yorkshire Wolds.
For a tranquil, relaxing rural retreat it’s hard to think there’s anywhere better than The Wold Cottage.

The Wold Cottage also has three self-catering properties in its grounds, two two-beds sleeping four and two one-beds, including one with its own courtyard and hot tub. Check them out here.
Location
The Wold Cottage is in walking distance to a village with Norman Church & Public House, but feels ultimately rural. Yet there are countless places to see and things to do nerby. It's only seven miles to the Yorkshire Coast where you'll find the RSPB reserve on Bempton's chalk cliffs (peak puffins are from May to June), the seaside resort of Bridlington and the famous harbour at Whitby. Local stately homes include Burton Agnes Hall, Sledmere House, Scampston Hall and Castle Howard, while for natural beauty the Yorkshire Wolds are at your door and the North Yorkshire Moors nearby. Rural postcodes aren't always that accurate: the What3Words address is ///cherubs.scan.agent.Reviews
"The best B&B ever. Wold Cottage is a special place full of superlatives. A Georgian manor farmhouse surrounded by beautiful extensive farmland land and gardens worthy of a stately house. Derek and Katrina have created a haven of tranquility and their experience and professionalism is exceptional as proven by their many awards and returning clientele. Unobtrusively, they work hard to enhance your individual experience - from tea and cake on arrival, an impromptu cold shandy on a hot afternoon, to a slice of freshly baked bread straight from the oven or a handful of figs from the walled garden. The delicious breakfast menu choices are brought to you by Derek often with a large helping of Yorkshire humour." TodooNada, October 2024Accreditations
