Beautiful converted barn close to the best beaches in Wales
This is the definitive B&B for relaxing easy holidays, combining luxury with a quite exceptional practicality, perfect for travellers who really want to make themselves feel at home. The barn, or more accurately the stable, threshing barn, mill and granary, was renovated specifically for the convenience of future guests – and every aspect was thought through.
Accommodation in Penbontbren is all in suites sleeping two. All have large sitting rooms and private gardens or terraces. And while breakfast is served daily in the main house – or your suite if required – all rooms are equipped with fridges, microwaves and dining areas so you make your own meals through the day if you like. There’s a local farmshop that sells everything you could need, up to and including locally-caught lobster: if that doesn’t suit Penbontbren can provide delicious microwave meals if required. There are plenty of places to dine in the area, from Haute cuisine to fish fresh from the sea and served with chips. Beds are comfortable, there’s wifi everywhere, and it’s a great place to simply relax. Nespresso machines, bathrobes and locally sourced products in every suite give some indication of the comforts on offer.
There’s plenty to enjoy during a stay here. There are seven acres of gardens, including streams, a croquet lawn and rolling rural views. But the coast, with its spectacular coves, headlands and beaches, is just three miles away and inland there’s the whole of the Cambrian Mountain range to explore.

West Wales is remote and unspoiled, but shelters picturesque beaches, friendly little towns and beautiful countryside. It's less than three miles to the safe, sandy beaches of Penbryn and Tresaith. There are great fishing opportunities nearby with sea trout and salmon on the coast and plenty of river fishing and trout farms inland. Cardigan Bay has grey seals and a resident schools of bottle-nose dolphin - one of only two in the country. Birdlife is prolific, with red kites, goshawks and peregrine falcons often seen. Ceredigion Coast Path is three miles away, but walkers and cyclists can choose from a range of mountains and moors. There are plenty of great golf courses nearby, not to mention the towns of Cardigan, Newcastle Emlyn and Aberaeron. Penbontbren has plenty of parking and two EV chargers for guests who've gone electric.
"We would highly recommend Penbontbren to anyone wanting to stay in Wales … it really is a gem"
