Self-contained luxury at this Dorset B&B
Manor Barn is a lovely rural B&B just outside Blandford Forum at the foot of Hambledon Hill. The two main guest bedrooms are in an attached but separate renovated barn, meaning you have a lot of independence to pop in and out during your stay. Biscuits and brownies are always on offer but there’s even a basic – though fully functional – kitchen for making tea or coffee, snacks and even meals. This is actually a utility room for the main house but it has everything you need, including dishwasher, oven, fridge and microwave.
Both guest bedrooms are simply but comfortably furnished, with en-suite facilities linens, bathrobes and towels from The White Company. The beds can be made up as twins or superking doubles, and one of the rooms is large enough to fit a trundle bed (children over the age of nine are welcome). There is, of course, wifi throughout.
Though all bedrooms have Freeview TVs, there’s another TV in the large sitting room, a large room with exposed timbers that has comfortable sofas at one end and a dining area at the other, where 5* breakfasts are served in the morning. The full range of breakfast options are available, as well as gluten-free and special-diet options. Fare is locally-sourced, the marmalades and jams home-made.
Outside there is a one-acre garden with lovely rural views. There are two resident dog so pets, unfortunately, are not permitted. There’s plenty of parking right outside your door and, as everything (including the walk-in showers) is all on one level, the property is remarkably accessible.
Manor Barn B&B suggests
Though the Barn itself has just two bedrooms, one can take an extra trundle bed if required. There is a further en-suite kingsized double bedroom in the main house so Manor Barn can accommodate up to seven in comfort.

LocationManor Barn sits on the edge of the Blackmore Vale, and AONB, with direct access to rural walks. You can access Hambledon Hill from the bottom of the drive. The house is set back from the road and a five minute walk to the heart of the village of Child Okeford, with two good pubs, a Post Office and village shop and, should the fancy take you, an art gallery. The Georgian market town of Blandford Forum is seven miles away, with the Italianate mansion of Kingston Lacey ten minutes further. Shaftesbury (famous for Gold Hill) is 8 miles away. The beaches of Bournemouth and Brownsea island are within easy driving distance to the south, as is Stonehenge to the north east. This is Hardy Country, rural Dorset at its best, with plenty to see and do.
