Green Close B&B
Combe, Witney, Oxfordshire OX29 8NS, EnglandSunny Walled Garden and Cosy Cotswold Comforts
Green Close B&B is a Grade II listed property in a conservation village near Woodstock and Witney, with three guest bedrooms, a private sitting room and a large and sunny walled garden. It’s an ideal base for exploring the Oxfordshire Cotswolds.
There are three guest bedrooms at Green Close B&B: one has a UK king-sized bed, with an ensuite bath with shower over and another has a small 4’6″ double with an ensuite shower room. Finally there’s a twin room – with beds that can be put together to make a superking double – which has it’s own private bathroom with bath and separate shower. All showers are powered from a good sized pump.
You’re not confined to your room here. Downstairs the guest dining room is in the oldest part of the house, still faithfully retaining some of its medieval features, while the spacious sitting room is a later addition: this is a large and sunny room, heated through the winter by a woodburning stove. The house is idyllically set overlooking the village green, but the garden extends over a full acre: much of it is walled, a summer sun-trap, with plenty of spaces to sit out and relax in private.
A Green Close breakfast is the ideal way to start your day. Eggs are from the garden hens, bread home made, and honey from the village. Special diets are catered for, along with a choice of cereals and granola, but the full English is something of a Green Close speciality.
Dogs may be able to stay by arrangement, but would be expected to live and sleep downstairs; Green Close has a resident puppy so this might not be a property that suits all dogs. Children are welcome as long as they don’t disturb other guests, so please only bring children that are likely to settle overnight.
Green Close is a period property: parts of it date back to Medieval times with additions arriving over the following centuries. This means there are different floor levels and occasional steps up and down. The guest bedrooms are on the first floor and are reached by a wide main staircase with a substantial bannister but the property is not wheelchair accessible.

Much of the pleasure in a stay at Green Close B&B is in its immediate area; It’s a stroll to Combe’s Parish Church, famous for its Medieval wall paintings, and you can walk from the village directly into Blenheim Park and to the North Leigh Roman Villa, with its preserved mosaic floors.
