An elegant Georgian country house in the heart of Wales
This glorious mansion with marble fireplaces, panelled doors, picture windows and glittering chandeliers has a sublimely peaceful setting in 20 acre grounds. But it’s uniquely connected: the restaurants and pubs of St Florence are just 250yards along a tree-lined drive and Tenby three miles further.
Elm Grove has 11 individually decorated guest rooms, all of which are fitted with a blend of modern amenities and period furniture. Bed linens are crisp, duvets deep and comforts extreme. Room configurations vary from twins to king-size doubles, as well as a single room: you’re sure to find one to fit your needs. All are fully equipped with bathrobes and Noble Isle toiletries; a sign of the attention to detail is that there is even a cool down mat for hair straighteners. All have en suite facilities, some including both bath and shower. For those rooms that just have showers there is a lockable bathroom with a roll-top bath for guests who do, on occasion, prefer a bath. Some rooms are on the ground floor for ease of access, and all have glorious garden or valley views.
You’re not confined to your bedrooms here. There are a number of large public rooms with original plaster cornicing, wood panels, Adams fireplaces and traditional touches. There’s a lounge for guide books and maps, a bar stocking local beers, fine wines and spirits, and a dining room for breakfast and dinner. Outside there are the private grounds, with a grass tennis court, croquet lawn, and a games room with table tennis and pool table. It’s a perfect place for an extended stay.

Jane & Alan Rees-Baynes
- Bio : Your hosts here are Jane and Alan Rees-Baynes, the third generation to operate Elm Grove Country House in its sixty years as a luxury B&B. The house itself is far older, of course: the foundations were laid in 1840. Cuisine is taken seriously here, with breakfasts of the highest standard: check out the local speciality, 'seaweed scramble'. Dinners are by arrangement and served year-round apart from August: they're always a sensational highlight.
