Comfort, character and charm in a splendid Georgian home
The artistic decor and opulent facilities make Cedar House in many ways more like a five-star hotel than a traditional B&B. Set in three acres of glorious landscaped grounds in southern Dorset, it is a rural refuge – but one in easy walking distance of Christchurch Harbour.
The decor is eclectic and the comforts extreme; the property manages to be grand, warm and welcoming all at once.
There are ten guest suites at Cedar House, all individually furnished with bespoke furnishings and works of art. Suites on the ground floor all have sun terraces and direct garden access.
The upstairs suites all have balconies; views are over the lovingly-tended grounds to the open fields of Dorset.
All guest suites are stylish and large, with Bose speaker systems, Nespresso coffee machines and ice buckets setting a seriously luxurious tone. All suites are, of course, en-suite and there is wifi throughout.
Guests here might be tempted to stay in their rooms: they’re all large enough to relax in and have outside space of their own, but the three acres of grounds cry out to be explored.
There’s a swimming pool, a tennis court, and croquet available, as well as intricate hedgerows and flower gardens.

Location
Cedar House is beautifully situated in the rural outskirts of Christchurch, on the southern edge of the New Forest and within ten minutes of the sea.
The nearest beach is Mudeford, with a tiny ferry heading out to Hengitsbury Head, for walks and wildlife. It's a five-minute drive to Christchurch with its 12th-century Priory and twenty minutes to Bournemouth, which also has the nearest airport.

Chris & Maggie Van Hagen
- Bio : Your hosts here are Maggie and Chris Van Hagen, who have a tremendous enthusiasm for hospitality. They also own two pubs in the area, both of which offer 20% discounts on meals to guests from Cedar House. Breakfast can be taken en famille around the grand dining table, in several sheltered enclaves around the garden, or in the privacy of your own terrace or balcony. Chris is happy to collect guests - in a Bentley - from local stations or airports, while Maggie comes into her own at breakfast. For groups, evening meals can sometimes be arranged.
