An ‘Outlander’ welcome just outside Edinburgh
Set by a deer park in a superbly rural location, Parkhead House is within walking distance of several filming locations made famous by the ‘Outlander‘ tv series (8.4 on IMDB) but even if this swashbuckling TV production has passed you by this is a wonderfully quiet retreat, just 15 minutes from Edinburgh Airport and close to the tram system for easy access to Edinburgh city centre.
Parkhead House is a beautiful Georgian cottage built around 1720 with accommodation for just six guests in two suites, each with its own sitting room/breakfast room, offering a large degree of independence and privacy. The Iona Suite is on the ground floor and sleeps two, with its own sitting room, breakfast area and en-suite bathroom. The first floor offers The Harris Suite, with two en-suite bedrooms and a living room/dining area, which is ideal for families or groups of up to four. The layout is such that you can enjoy the fantastic Scottish breakfast, served daily, in the privacy of your suite. Both suites are comfortably furnished, full of books, sofas, and are ideal for a relaxing stay. Superfast Wi-Fi keeps you connected and wireless printing is available.
Your B&B here has gardens on every side which you can use for sunny morning breakfasts, afternoon tea or just relaxing with a drink after a long day. The fantastic barbeque area at sunset is a must on a beautiful evening. Set within the historic and private Hopetoun Estate, (home to the Earls of Hopetoun for more than three hundred years) you will find plenty of secret walks only locals know about right on the doorstep. There is direct access to the 150-acre deer park and the cottage is right on the John Muir Way long-distance walk. Bring your own dog – they’re welcome here, and the garden is fenced – so they can enjoy the long country walks.
There’s plenty to do and see in the area, but a particular focus comes from the Outlander TV series. Many locations are within easy walking distance, and guided walking or driving tours can help you locate each scene and identify shooting angles. And while being beautifully rural, you’re within easy reach of Edinburgh, thanks to its excellent tram system. We can arrange for your dogs to be looked after and taken for a walk while you spend time in the city. Here you can have the best of both Scottish worlds.

LocationParkhead House is situated near South Queensferry on the Firth of Forth, just to the west of Edinburgh, in a privately owned historic rural ancestral estate. This means you get the best of all worlds, being set in a very rural environment while still being within easy reach of Edinburgh, Scotland's capital, with all its famous attractions. There's an excellent local pub within easy walking distance, while South Queenferry, with its many shops and restaurants, is only a ten-minute drive away. You don't have to travel so far to start to discover 'Outlander' locations as Lallybroch, Blackness Castle and Hopetoun House are all within easy walking distance, but if you want your own private history or filming locations tour Parkhead House can provide this too - with driver provided. So why not base yourself here and arrange to be looked after while seeing some of the amazing sites Scotland is famous for?
Reviews"My second stay with Parkhead House somehow outdid the first - the property is gorgeous, with every little detail and touch you could think of being taken care of, the rooms were modern-cottage-perfection, the breakfast was *amazing*, we couldn’t have asked for a better experience and will be returning as fast as humanly possible. A must for any Outlander fans, or for anyone simply looking for a perfect B&B experience." Amy MYYJ, 2019
