Kilmokea Country Manor & GardenGreat Island, Campile, County Wexford, Y34 TH58, Eire
A slice of heaven in the Wexford countryside
Imagine beautiful gardens, a handsome house, delicious locally produced food and above all an honest warm welcome. Kilmokea has created the perfect environment to unwind and relax while you adopt a slower pace and simply enjoy being able to travel again. A ‘guest only’ indoor heated pool for a leisurely swim, a warm Jacuzzi to ease tired muscles. Flower essences and Aromatherapy oils. Fill all your senses in the walled, food and woodland gardens. After dinner fall into bed in one of the beautiful rooms and dream of another day of peace at Kilmokea …
There are six guest bedrooms at Kilmokea B&B, each individually designed and furnished to make the most of the property’s period features but ensure that every comfort is amply provided. Each is named after some of the more sensational plants and animals that you’ll find in the gardens outside, and two of the rooms, set on the ground floor, have their own private front doors giving immediate garden access. All, of course, are en-suite. For wifi head to the library.
Kilmokea has plenty going on throughout the day. Guests here can relax in the indoor heated pool, enjoy sessions in the sauna and Jacuzzi, or undertake aromatherapy treatments. Apart from breakfast a la carte lunches are served in the conservatory while table d’hote dinners – with vegetables plucked fresh from the garden – are served by arrangement in the dining room. There’s even a baby grand piano for the musically inclined.
Kilmokea B&B suggests
At any time of year the seven acres of beautifully tended gardens provide a riot of colour and plenty to see. The more active will soon find the all-weather tennis court, croquet lawn and trout lake. This is far more than just a place to sleep.

Much of the pleasures are found within the grounds, elegantly tumbling down to the River Barrow. But take time to explore. South Wexford is 'secret Ireland' - largely unspoilt and awaiting discovery. The coastline offers a beach a day for a fortnight, with pretty villages, bird-filled mudflats, surf beaches and pretty fishing villages all within easy reach. There are 11 golf courses within an hours drive, with the closest being 10 minutes away, fly fishing on rivers and more angling to sea, kite-surfing, kayaking, and history on every side. Best of all are the people: warm, friendly, interesting and philosophical - and always with time for a chat.

Emma & Mark Hewlett
- Bio : Your hosts at Kilmokea are the Hewlett family, who have spent the last 20 years restoring the property to its former glory and who welcome guests because they like looking after people. Emma and Mark have three boys. Joshua is your waiter in the evening and Myles & Cosmo help below stairs. Several animals, including a retired horse live here, the hens providing eggs for breakfast. They have spent a lot of effort restoring the gardens - think an Irish Heligan with giant rhubarb, tree ferns and bamboo - in particular restoring the vegetable garden into a fully organic fruit and vegetable potager, providing super-fresh ingredients direct to the plate.
