Hunters Lodge

Grade 2-listed luxury on Goodwood’s South Downs
Hunters Lodge is a superbly-appointed B&B with three guest bedrooms within the South Downs National Park. Once part of the Goodwood Estate, it provides contemporary comforts with a sense of history: an ideal base from which to explore Chichester and West Sussex.
The three guest bedrooms are all spacious and ensuite. Fluffy bathrobes, hairdryers, flat-screen TVs and superfast broadband are all provided as well as hospitality trays containing locally bottled water, Fair Trade tea, filter coffee and a jar of Hunters Lodges own freshly-baked homemade biscuits. Kingley has a king sized bed, an open fireplace, and glorious views though it’s Victorian sash window over Kingley Vale to the South Downs. The Trumley Room can be configured as a kin gsize or twin, again has a fireplace, and looks over Trumley Copse. The Stoke Room has an altogether different feel, with exposed 18th-century brickwork, soft cosy furnishings and views over the iconic Stoke Clump.
Breakfast is served in the atmospheric dining room, using local ingredients to serve a range of cooked and baked options. Imaginative options are always on offer and special dietary requirements can always be catered for with notice. Tea and homemade cake is always offered to guests on their arrival at the lodge.
There’s a lovely sitting room, warmed on cool evenings by a woodburner. Guests are welcome to use the garden but there is a slight catch: your hosts need to be around as access is through their kitchen. The house is also home to two rather particular Burmese cats but these do not have access to the guest areas.
One thing guests at Hunters Lodge invariably notice is the warmth of the welcome and the comfort of their stay. It’s a truly captivating base for exploring West Sussex.
Hunters Lodge B&B suggests:
Bring your bike. Hunters Lodge can provide secure bicycle storage and can arrange local bike hire. As well as walking trails across the South Downs they are happy to advise on a number of cycle routes in the area.

"I booked all 5 rooms at Hunters Lodge for the night before my wedding. From start to finish Helen was just wonderful. She was so attentive, a brilliant host and constantly ensured we were okay. Helen allowed us to come and go as we pleased and was very accommodating with letting the make up and hair stylists begin in the early hours. When we arrived, Helen gave us a tour of the house and offered us tea and coffee with some homemade baked treats which were delicious. Helen allowed us to treat the house like our own and really made sure all of us were happy. In the morning, Helen was fantastic with cooking a wide selection of breakfasts that catered for all of our needs, wants and dietary requirements. The food was delicious and the options were endless. The house was in a beautifully presented and immaculate condition. I am so happy that I booked to stay with Helen at Hunters Lodge and I can’t recommend this place enough. Thank you so much."
