Win Wolsey Lodges’ prize for September. This is a two-night stay for two at Upper Buckton, a magnificent farmhouse set on an ancient castle motte close to Herefordshire’s border with Shropshire and Powys.
Beautifully rural, Upper Buckton is set in 1.5-acre gardens that slope gently down to a millstream. Castles are often built with spectacular views, and Upper Buckton’s stretch for miles: to help guest make the most of them all guest bedrooms have binoculars provided, and there’s also a covered verandah overlooking the Teme Valley that stretches the length of the property. Upper Buckton is hardly remote – there’s a pub serving good food that’s five minutes away by car – but the air is filled with skylarks, mistle thrushes and red kites.
Rooms are super-comfortable, with separate sitting areas, smart TVs, DAB radios and phone charging points. There are three guest bedrooms with a further bedroom that can be brought into use for families or groups of friends who don’t mind sharing a bathroom.
It’s perfect for walkers, hikers and cyclists. There’s a heated bootroom for changing out of muddy gear and clothes can be washed overnight, being returned, folded, in time for a famous Upper Buckton breakfast. In all it’s a wonderful place to stay.
A two-night stay at Upper Buckton for two consecutive nights for two in any one of their four wonderful ensuite bedrooms.
Breakfast each morning of your stay.
A mixed case of local cider from Newton Court near Leominster. This is hard to find but extremely good.
The prize is to be taken before March 2023, excluding Christmas and New Year (which is pretty much booked anyway), is subject to availability and is not transferable.
