Win the Wolsey Lodges prize for January. This is a two-night stay for two at Bossington Hall, a magnificent Exmoor mansion with glorious sea views.

Built by one of the 19th century’s last great ship owners, Bossington Hall has been beautifully restored. There are nine guest bedrooms, all with ensuite facilities or private bathrooms: baths are rolltop, showers are rainfall, and fluffy white bathrobes set a genteel tone.

Step outside and there’s more. Bossington Hall has a large terrace, perfect for soaking up the sunset views. The whole is set in eight acres of informal gardens and woodland areas, with its own river, waterfall and millpond to explore. Sporting facilities are unrivalled, with a tennis court, the UK’s oldest privately-owned squash court and plenty of lawns for impromptu games of all kind.  The estate is cradled by iconic Exmoor landscapes, with the coast and Porlock village, with its many pubs and restaurants, is less than a mile’s walk away.

Add on superb breakfasts. Their ‘Full English’ has been awarded the Taste of the West Gold Award but is frequently upstaged by more imaginative alternatives: it’s clear this is more than a standard B&B.
