A thoroughbred welcome in the North Cotswold countryside

Once a dairy, The Ox House has been lavishly converted to the very highest standards into a B&B to provide elegance and luxury in a setting that is at once very rural but superbly well-connected. The conversion is brand new, so the latest styles prevail, with soaring open beams and a sense of airy elegance. Set around a walled garden the Ox House provides privacy and comfort in equal measure. It is at the heart of a working farm that schools cross-country and eventing horses, so the setting is calm and rural, only broken occasionally by the sound of hooves galloping by.

There are just two guest bedrooms here, one superking and one twin. Both have en-suite facilities which are exceptionally well-appointed with all contemporary comforts fitted this year. The ‘L’-shaped property encloses a quiet walled garden that’s a sheltered sun-trap, perfect for watching new plants get established as a classic farmhouse garden comes vividly to life.

The atmosphere is of airy elegance, with antique furnishings complementing an interior that has been so thoroughly redecorated as to leave little trace of this dairy’s previous life. There’s a large sitting room for guests to relax in and wifi, of course, throughout. There’s a lovely breakfast room that runs on from the glorious kitchen, with an Aga standing ready to cook farmhouse breakfasts, and there’s always the option of sandwiches or paté if you’d like a light meal rather than going out in the evening. All in all it’s a wonderful place to stay.

Location

Though very close to the main Cirencester Road the Ox House is reached by a short country lane and feels very rural and peaceful. It's a two-minute drive to the Crown pub in Frampton Mansell for delicious evening meals and only six miles to the Bell, a truly exceptional gastro-pub. This part of the Cotswolds has plenty to see and do, with Tetbury (Highgrove), Cirencester and Stroud all within easy reach. Westonbirt Arboretum is 20 minutes away by car and the region is both rural and refined: you'll find it packed with some of the country's finest pubs and restaurants.

Reviews

"On arrival we were warmly welcomed into a beautiful home. The architect designed conversion from a barn is quite incredible. We booked two bedrooms, one double and the other twin bedded. The towels, linen and toiletries were all very good quality. The rooms were tastefully furnished with personal pieces of china and silver on display and a large selection of books available for guests. Patio doors lead to a terrace with lovely views over the surrounding countryside.
The lounge, with its high beams and comfortable furniture, was charming and tastefully decorated.
An excellent breakfast was available each morning.
Our hostess was most helpful in advising places to visit and even reserving accommodation for evening meals in nearby pubs.
We would have no hesitations in highly recommending Ox House to all our friends."

"My wife and I had the most wonderful night staying at Ox House, just outside Cirencester. Alison Kerr Muir met us as arranged and provided tea and a fabulous home baked cake on arrival. The accommodation was first rate and very comfortable. Alison is a superb host and we are looking forward to returning in the spring. Please pass on our thanks"

  • Bio : Though the Ox House is a totally new venture, Alison Kerr Muir has plenty of experience in hospitality. She used to have an outside catering company and until recently ran Hawkhill House B&B - getting rave reviews on Tripadvisor. Breakfasts are lavish, using locally-sourced ingredients, and can be taken in the large open-plan kitchen or in privacy of your room.
