Upton Cressett Hall, The Moat HouseUpton Cressett, Bridgnorth WV16 6UH, England
Elegance and luxury in PG Wodehouse country
The creator of Jeeves would have been very much at home at Upton Cressett Hall: Wodehouse grew up in the Shropshire Hills and this moated Elizabethan stately house is very much a place where pig thefts, romances and outlandish scrapes might take place. The Moat House is the latest addition to the accommodation at Upton Cressett, a stylish conversion of an ancient lateral barn into a very comfortable two-bedroom self-catering rental property. Enter through a studded oak front door and discover the original barn’s oak beams soaring over wide-plank floor interior, with two outsize sofas, a dining table that can fit eight with ease and a writing-desk overlooking the medieval moat and woodlands beyond.
The Moat House has two guest bedrooms, both with King Size beds, wall-mounted SMART TVs and ensuites with Burlington baths, luxury shower heads, heated towel rails and White Company toiletries. A south-facing private garden terrace and patio is ideal for barbeques on warm sunny days.
For groups taking over all three rental properties available at Upton Cressett Hall it is the Moat House that is likely to be the central hub, if only because – with the addition of a second dining table – it can seat up to 14 if required. If rented on its own it provides ample space for groups of four – along with up to two well-behaved dogs – to relax and explore your stately environment: guests here have full access to Upton Cressett’s garden and grounds.
In all the Moat House brings contemporary comforts to this beautifully restored Grade-II-listed gem of 15th-century England.
Upton Cressett Hall suggests
There are three guest properties at Upton Cressett Hall, all separate but within 100 yards of each other, all a part of the moated hall itself. If you rent all three and add further accommodation in the Great Chamber suite (in a private wing of the main house) that means the property can accommodate up to 14 guests, with further cots and children’s beds available if needed. Add on the possibility of catered dinners for up to 24 in the Great Hall dining room, with its giant medieval fireplace and painted gilt ceiling. This makes Upton Cressett Hall the perfect venue for a family reunion.

Fantastic place to spend the weekend among boundless history, art & literature. The hosts are incredibly kind and generous, not to mention exceptionally knowledgable about their beautiful home and its bountiful tales. The gardens are a treat and there is plenty of ground to explore, including Norman churches and the like.
To top it all off, wee had the most perfect sunny Saturday lunch in the garden tent to the dulcet tones of the host's record collection.
