A luxury Georgian Country House in a thousand Irish acres

Whole-house rental brings a new dimension to the Temple House experience. Reached by a half-mile avenue threading through parkland grazed by 1,600 sheep and their lambs, Temple House B&B is a classic stately manor in the heart of County Sligo. Home to the Perceval family since 1665 it effortlessly blends grandeur with intimacy in a stunning rural setting. It’s a wonderful place to get together for a private event or a romantic getaway, an unequalled chance to experience of life on a grand estate.

Whole-house rental brings the chance to make the house fill its potential, packing it with guests for convivial family holidays. With a whole-house rental all ten bedrooms come into use, with 16 beds for those who want singles and plenty of space to add child beds if required. Breakfasts are included, lunch is generally out or DIY, and evening meals are available.

Beds are comfortable, furniture of the period and bathrooms well-equipped, but there’s nothing twee about Temple House: the atmosphere is authentically that of a grand rural manor house, firmly planted in its own thousand acres of parkland and grazing.

Guests here rattle around the public areas with plenty of space and rooms to spare. The central hallway is vast, with a grand staircase cradling the space. There are breakfast rooms, morning rooms, drawing rooms and a grand dining hall, heated in winter by a crackling open fire. In cooler months indoor activities take centre stage, with a range of board games and table tennis available.  In summer there’s plenty to do: take a boat out onto the lake, play swingball and other outdoor games in the garden and watch eagles soar overhead.

Location

Though completely rural, Temple House is actually quite easy to get to: Knock, Ireland West Airport is half an hour away by car. The grounds themselves form a huge part of any visit here. Today's Temple House was built well above the shores of a lake - where boats are available and there are pike to catch - and as you walk down to the water you pass the ruins of previous dwellings and the 13th century ruins of a Knights Templar castle. The current Temple House dates back to 1864 thanks to a fortune earned from the East by an early Perceval, known as 'the Chinaman'. There's also the chance to roam across lush green pasture and through native woodland festooned with lichen. Sligo town is an easy 20 minutes drive away with plenty of small shops and restaurants rapidly improving as part of the Sligo Food Trail.  Staying at Temple House is a wonderful experience and just 10 minutes off the Wild Atlantic Way.
