Michelin standards between Cathedral and Coast

There’s no doubt the setting of this wonderful B&B is part of its appeal: it’s within easy walking distance of St Davids Cathedral and the Pembrokeshire coast path. But Ramsey House goes much further, adding delightful en-suite accommodation and Michelin-standard cuisine: it perfectly combines the warmth and friendliness of a traditional B&B with the very exacting standards of a luxury five-star hotel.

There are four guest bedrooms, stylishly decorated with Designer’s Guild and Zoffany papers and fabrics, solid oak furnishings and leather tub chairs. All beds are by Hypnos, with mattress toppers and hypo-allergenic goose down duvets. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms that feature Italian tiles, L’Occitane toiletries and white waffle bathrobes. Every room has a flat-screen TV and hospitality tray stocked with a range of teas and coffees.  Bedrooms on the first floor have wonderful views, of the sea and surrounding countryside, and two guest bedrooms on the ground floor are perfect for people who prefer to avoid stairs: these overlook the delightful enclosed garden.

Guests here have plenty of space to relax. There’s a large sitting room on the ground floor and Ramsey House is licensed, so it’s easy to order a designer ice-cold gin before setting out for supper – or a fine malt night cap when you return. There’s also a well-maintained enclosed garden, with plenty of seating and a peripatetic Mariachi band of miniature call ducks: they serenade any visitors but, being ducks not Mexicans, don’t expect payment.

Breakfasts are a highlight. Your host here is Michelin-trained and brings his considerable talents to a range of locally-sourced ingredients: you can try something different every day. Even his packed lunches have a menu. Due to open staircases and various other issues Ramsey House is not suitable for children or pets apart from guide dogs.

If you’re looking to combine the natural beauty of the Pembrokeshire coast with the atmospheric beauty of St Davids there is no better place to stay.

Location

Ramsey House is superbly located within easy walking distance of the coast - there are no nearer B&Bs - and St Davids, with its Cathedral and ruined Bishop's Palace. This is a city the size of a village, a charming place with a scatter of shops and pubs, surrounded by glorious countryside. Walk west and the coast is beautiful, with sheltered coves and wide sandy beaches, and shelters a huge diversity of fauna and flora:  the famous Pembrokeshire Coastal Path is in easy walking distance from Ramsey House. Boats leave St Justinians to circle Ramsey Island, a natural paradise for all types of seabirds: June is puffin season and September the time to spot baby seals. Add on coasteering and the UK's largest wooden rollercoaster and it's easy to entertain yourself here for an extended stay.

Reviews

"This was a wonderful B & B - lovely room, fantastic service, lovely owners who went the extra mile to please us. We would certainly recommend a stay at this B & B. We were welcomed with tea a cake (homemade) and there was a great packed lunch menu to choose from. Breakfast was delicious and all in all we had a fantastic time."
