A family welcome in a historic Minster market town
This classic Georgian townhouse provides a perfect base to discover the delights of Southwell, a fantastic town outside Nottingham with its own Minster, market, racecourse and more. Unusually for a Wolsey Lodge, not all Ormonde House’s bedrooms are ensuite and the standard breakfast is Continental, but the warmth of the welcome in this family home means in its first six months in operation ratings on Booking.com are through the roof. The communal areas are comfortable and elegant, evening meals are available and inexpensive, and guests here find the accommodation is what completes their visit. The charms of Southwell complete the experience. For those who’ve never visited Southwell or the Nottingham area, Ormonde House is a good enough reason to plan a trip.
There are three guest bedrooms here. On the ground floor you’ll find The Morris Room, with twin beds and an en-suite shower. The Sanderson is a family room on the first floor, while the Ashley Suite is on the third floor, with its own snug that can either be used as a place to relax, park spare children (babysitting is available) or even take breakfast in private. Ormonde House is a period, town-centre property so the bathroom is shared but bathrobes are provided, toiletries are top of the range, and guests are invariably surprised at how well the whole thing works.
Guests are welcome to range through the ground floor, with a living room with open fire, a dining room en famille and the small walled garden. The decor is a mix of antique, reloved, classical and English country style. Unusually for a Wolsey Lodge breakfast is generally Continental, though a full cooked breakfast (catering for all dietary requirements) is available on request This is very much a family home but a very civilised one with plenty of space. And all the town’s attractions are just a few paces from your door.

Though in a very central location, off-street parking is available, free and secure. Tamara's enthusiasm for Southwell means you'll never be short of ideas for things to do. Southwell Minster is the scale of a cathedral and only 200 yards away, there are countless restaurants and pubs, a music festival in summer and the area is surrounded by Civil War history. There's also a Victorian workhouse, now run by the National Trust, that only closed in the 1980's. Tamara has a soft spot for Southwell Racecourse, as Ormonde House was built on the proceeds of a winning bet on a horse called Ormonde. Nottingham is 40 minutes away by car and East Midlands Airport 30 miles.
"The place really is something special. The photos don’t do the property justice at all. Every room in the house is like something from an interior design magazine. Absolutely perfect. Highly recommend with a perfect host!"

- Bio : Your host here is Tamara Taylor, who has fifteen years experience as a senior grade one cabin crew for British Airways. This means you are very unlikely to be the most demanding person she's ever dealt with, politely and with a smile. The first-class experience certainly carries through to Ormonde House. Breakfasts are Continental but lavishly so, and all diets are catered for. Cooked breakfasts are by arrangement and charged separately. Guest rooms are equipped and presented perfectly, and evening meals, designed to match your taste and appetite, are available on request.
