New-build facilities and traditional comforts in Eastern Norfolk
Meadow House is a lovely two-bedded farmhouse B&B just outside the village of Harpley, within walking range of Houghton Hall and in easy reach of Norfolk’s market towns and beaches.
Meadow House is a newly-built property set on a Norfolk farm: it has all the charm of a working farmhouse without the seasonal panics that afflict the farming lifestyle. At Meadow House the emphasis is on relaxation, with modern comforts softened by traditional cosiness and a very warm welcome.
The two guest bedrooms can be configured either as king-sized doubles or twins. Both are ensuite and beautifully furnished, with a fridge and facilities to make tea and coffee, flat screen TV and radio and there’s wifi throughout. One room is small and cosy, while the other is larger. Both have views over the surrounding countryside: barn owls, pheasants, geese and deer are often seen.
Breakfast is taken in the drawing room which overlooks a rosebed and the garden beyond. The choice is extensive, including a delicious Full English as well as fresh fruits, yogurt and healthy cereals. Amanda has been running B&Bs for most of her life and is able to cope with any special diets.
Guests here are not confined to their room. There’s a drawing room with squashy sofas and comfy chairs, as well as gardens and the wider farm to explore. It’s five minutes walk to a popular dining pub and a fifteen minute stroll to Houghton Hall.
Meadow House B&B suggests:
It takes ten minutes to reach the Peddar’s Way trail: 47 miles of spectacular big skies all the way to Holme-next-the-sea. This can be walked or cycled, in which case it’s a fulfilling day ride. Return to a cup of tea by the drawing room’s fireside.

"The room in the picture looks like the room I was staying in. I absolutely would recommend this place. You could not have a better host, setting, comfort, excellent breakfast and Amanda went out of her way to provide us with a delicious supper every evening after our late performances in Houghton Hall which is only 6 minutes away by car. Amanda made us feel so welcome. The rooms had all the comforts of a 5 star hotel." Boadica, July 2024Features
