Stately-home comforts on the Northumberland Coast

Chatton Park is a stately-home B&B in Alnwick area offering 5 star adult only accommodation in a restored country house dating back to 1730, all set in four acres of glorious gardens. Accommodation is in four guest bedrooms in the main house, with another in a private detached Lodge. Add a pampering breakfast in the sumptuous dining room and this is the ultimate elegant escape on the Northumberland coast , a haven for relaxation and rejuvenation.

Accommodation in the main house is in two suites, a mini-suite, and a luxury double room. All are beautifully appointed with fluffy towels, cotton linens, in-room fridges and ensuite shower or bathrooms.  The Alnwick double room is huge, with a super king bed and dual aspect views over the back and side gardens. The Chillingham mini-suite can be configured as a twin or superking and is named after the – allegedly haunted – Chillingham Castle, a mile up the road. The Chatton and Cheviot Suites overlook the front gardens and add private living rooms to their facilities: The Chatton ensuite has a luxurious drench shower as well as a roll-top slipper bath, while the Cheviot also has a shower jet cabin with drench shower head.

There’s a further guest bedroom in The Lodge, a 5* detached property in its own 1/4 acre garden. The bedroom is large with a super king bed , but there’s also a sitting room with an open fire and a full kitchen/diner. Like the main house there is full fibre optic wifi throughout. On a B&B basis it’s only a short stroll back to the main house for breakfast, but The Lodge can also be taken as a self-catering haven, while still making the most of the gardens and grounds.

Breakfasts showcase the finest local ingredients, with jams and marmalades that are home made by pul and regional specialities such as Northumberland sausages and oak smoked kippers. The Full English is always available but alongside several different options to suit your mood, and special diets can always be catered for – just be sure to call in advance in case ingredients need to be ordered in.

Guests here aren’t confined to their room there is a huge guest lounge which is available at all times to relax in or read or have a drink.  This Georgian property used to be home to the Duke of Northumberland, and the proportions and furnishings are suitably aristocratic. The four-acre grounds are suitably stately, with a tennis court, spreading meadows and towering specimen trees, but it’s all at the heart of Alnwick area perfectly placed to offer peace and quite but in the centre of everything you would want to see , Alnwick town is 20mins drive from us south and Bamburgh is 15mins drive to the beach and castle.
